Biodun Stephen, a Nigerian actress, has spoken out about her struggle with depression as a result of her inability to land acting gigs. She revealed this in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo. Biodun admitted that she quit acting because she didn’t think it was for her. After going to many auditions, the director said she felt “depressed and really frustrated” because the results were not encouraging.
“I cannot remember the date, but I knew it was in October, I broke down, I could not watch TV, because I will go to auditions with someone, and I would look at them and wonder what is wrong with me, why am I not getting picked and I was questioning everything,” she said.
“None of it was you cannot act, so it got really depressing, really frustrating and I thought maybe, this acting thing was not for me and I put it aside and went to work.
“I said to God, you gave me this talent, take it away, in accepting, I had to tell God, take this feeling away. Do not let me think about film. Do not let me think about acting, because this particular one is not working.”
The director recently discussed the difficulties she had during her first few years of marriage.
