Al Nassr President Behind Ronaldo’s Signing Resigns From The Club After Regret
Al Nassr president behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s signing has resigned from his job at the club, according to reports on Friday, April 28, 2023.
The Portuguese icon was signed by Qatari side Al Nassr earlier this year after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, for an amount reported to be over $200,000.
Ronaldo’s two-and-a-half-year contract with the team made him the most expensive signing ever in football history. However, after criticising Man United, the Premier League club agreed to terminate him by mutual consent.
Despite a few glimpses of brilliance, his frustrations persist and tempers have risen as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been unable to help the team in winning silverware.
According to the Saudi Gazette, Al-Nassr club president Musalli Al- Muammar, who dealt with Ronaldo’s signing earlier this season, has quit, with the club due to a disappointing end to the 2022-23 season.
According to the source, Al-Muammar has already filed his resignation letter to the Ministry of Sports, and the club’s current board of directors will be dissolved. A new board of directors and president could be chosen before the end of the season.
Since Ronaldo’s arrival, the team has actually been on a downward spiral. League defeats to title rivals Al-Ittihad mean they are now set to miss out on the crown, while a 1-0 loss to Al-Wehda knocked them from the King Cup of Champions semi-finals.
Manager Rudi Garcia was also fired after a run of poor form, and Ronaldo has let his anger boil out on several occasions during his team’s problems.
The report added that, while the club works to appoint a new board of directors, they would do all possible to finish the season successful and make good on their investment in Ronaldo, while hoping Al-Ittihad seems to mistakes and lets them back in with a new contract.
