Mark Angel, a renowned skit maker and video producer, recently shared his journey from facing obstacles and negative comments to becoming a successful comedian.
During an interview with Teju Babyface, Mark Angel revealed that he almost gave up on comedy because of the challenges he faced. He spoke about a friend who worked for Shell Nigeria and used to mock him during his early days as a struggling skit creator, questioning if he could provide for his family with skits.
Mark Angel recalled his skit-making journey, explaining that he started in 2013 but didn’t gain fame until 2015. It wasn’t until 2016 that he experienced a breakthrough in the skit-making industry.
He mentioned facing discouragement and self-doubt due to negative feedback from people around him. Mark Angel recounted a particular incident with his friend, Alloy, who once criticized his pursuit of a career in skit-making.
“One day, I was coming back home from the location with my laptop and camera, and Alloy, who was working with Shell Nigeria then stopped me to say, ‘Mark, you intend to provide for your family with skits? Really? This ‘foolishness’ is your plan to take care of your family. Just wandering and trekking aimlessly with the laptop? At least, pay for a ride on a commercial motorcycle!’”
Despite the discouragement, Mark Angel strived and invested his earnings into his craft, including paying bloggers to promote his skits. Now, the same friend who once mocked him, Alloy, works for his construction company
Mark Angel reflected on this transformation and humorously pointed out how Alloy went from doubting his skit-making career to being employed by him in his construction business.
