“Godwin Emefiele Arrested by EFCC Following DSS Release”
Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Shortly after his release from the Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday night, Emefiele was apprehended by the EFCC.
Reports suggest that he is currently undergoing questioning at the EFCC’s National Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The former Central Bank governor is under investigation by the EFCC for potential misconduct during his tenure as the head of the country’s largest bank.
It’s worth noting that Emefiele was detained by the DSS in June, on the same day that President Bola Tinubu suddenly removed him from office.
The Presidency stated that Emefiele was suspended at the time due to “ongoing investigation of his office and planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.”
