Nigerian singer, Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, recently opened up about his shift away from religious practices after achieving financial success.
The Afropop artist shared that he used to attend church regularly and was raised in a Christian environment. However, as his life changed with fame and wealth, his religious beliefs transformed.
Omah Lay explained that he now focuses on humanity and caring for others instead of being strictly religious. He even mentioned that at one point, he contemplated converting to Islam despite coming from a Christian background.
Although he acknowledged the genuineness of the lessons in religious texts, he expressed concern about their accuracy and his belief in God.
Omah Lay said:
“I stopped being religious after making money; I just believed in God and became more focused on humanity than religion. I don’t enjoy religion as much as I used to. I grew up in a Christian home, spent a lot of time in church, and even considered converting to Islam at one point. But now, it’s just me and God. Not religion. Because I really don’t know much about religion. That’s the issue. These holy books and what everyone says, it sounds true, but I can’t find evidence that they were written by God or His servants.
So, I feel like I don’t know much, even though I know about the Bible, Jesus, and Allah. But, in the end, I don’t have evidence. The only evidence I have is that there’s a God who is guiding me. I believe there must be something in charge of this whole thing. I believe it’s God.”
