Napoli’s recent TikTok video mocking Victor Osimhen has sparked controversy, prompting the club to clarify its intentions. The Italian Serie A champions stressed that the video was never meant to offend or ridicule the Nigerian striker and emphasized Osimhen’s importance to the team. Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, had threatened legal action in response to the video, leading to this statement.
Napoli also highlighted their commitment to retaining Osimhen during the summer transfer window, rejecting offers for his transfer abroad. They explained that social media, including TikTok, often employs playful and creative expressions without intending harm. The club expressed regret if Victor felt offended, reiterating that this was not their intention.
Rudi Garcia, Napoli’s Head Coach, downplayed the situation, attributing it to frustration after a missed penalty in a Serie A match against Bologna. He mentioned that the issue had been resolved, emphasizing Osimhen’s dedication to the club.
Despite Napoli offering Osimhen a new contract, he is hesitant due to the absence of a release clause. If the current discord cannot be resolved, Napoli may have to consider allowing Osimhen to leave in the summer, potentially reaping a substantial profit. Otherwise, he could become a free agent if he stays until 2025.
