Naval officer and another person being sought by police for an alleged robbery in Edo

A member of the Nigerian Navy, Ibrahim Adamu, age 25, and a member of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Abdullahi Abdulwahab, age 26, have both been detained by the Edo State Police Command on suspicion of car snatching and armed robbery.

When the suspects were paraded on Tuesday, the state police public relations officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that the suspects were taken into custody in Ekpoma by agents based on reliable information while wearing military uniforms. He mentioned how the suspects had attacked and taken the unregistered C300 Mercedes Benz from its owner in Sapele, Delta State. Additionally, they coerced him into sending N400,000 to their account. They were supposed to sell the car in Abuja, but the police at Ekpoma, Edo State, stopped them.

“The suspects have made statements and claimed to be personnel of the Nigerian Navy and Correctional Service respectively,” Nwabuzor said.

Abdullahi, who claimed to be a correctional officer in Kaduna State, claimed that Adamu invited him to Warri for the position and claimed that it was his first time participating in a heist.

Adamu, who joined the Nigerian Navy in 2019, claimed to have been detained in Delta State for stealing a Mercedes Benz C300.

“I was recruited into the Navy in 2019. I worked in Lokoja, Kogi State before I was posted to Warri, Delta State. It was when I went on a course in Sapele that I made the plan to st£al a vehicle. After my course, Abdullahi came to visit me and I told him my plans, assuring him that we would make money and he agreed to join me,” he said.
