Rebecca Ikumelo, a 33-year-old fan who sadly died after being injured during a crowd crush outside London’s Brixton Academy during Asake’s show, has expressed her displeasure with the artist utilising Rebecca’s image without contacting the family.
According to Citi News, Afrobeat musician Asake recently performed at the 02 Arena, where he paid respect to those who died at Brixton Academy last December 2022. With a fantastic performance, Asake became the sixth Nigerian singer to sell out the 02 Arena in London, United Kingdom. In response to the singer’s homage, Racheal stated that it was improper and that she hoped he had spoken to them earlier.
She stated:
“What a sorry excuse of a “tribute” from @asakemusik. My sister lost her life at your show and you haven’t spoken to a single member of my family since. But you can hold another concert in London less than 9 months later and play her videos as a “tribute”? RIP to my sister Rebecca Ikumelo and also to Gaby Hutchinson.”
